Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarship for his family with service in the local community. First the Selmons were raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon at their Eufala farm. He was the youngest of nine children. The Selmons were also among the three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most effective offensive lineman of the national by Outland Lombardi, Outland and the Outland Awards. For three seasons as the starting line-up Oklahoma finished 32-1-0 and secured two national championships. A third scholarship saw him named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer every week while in the course of his college. In Tampa He played with the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. He also began a career in the field of business. He was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. This is why it was a surprise to hear that he was voted one of the top 10 young men in the country by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 lbs. He was captain of his university team in 1975. He joined at the University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame named him in the year 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame, in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
